About Downtown and Midtown Mobile
Mobile Alabama was founded by the French in 1702. It is the oldest Alabama city and major port in the region. The first Mardi Gras celebration in North America was held in Mobile in 1830. The population in the city limits as of 2010 was around 200,000. Mobile has a professional opera, a symphony orchestra, a professional ballet company, many museums, Explorium, beautiful architecture, wonderful gulf coast restaurants and a large music seen of all different genre.
Downtown and Midtown Mobile are wonderful places to live if you are looking for a laid back, Gulf Coast, urban experience. You can walk to a Mardi Gras parade, ride your bike to the Art Walk and/or Brown Bag in the park (eat lunch and listen to local live music) and you can take an evening stroll to your favorite restaurant or experience the night life.
