About Saraland and Satsuma
Saraland’s slogan is “Gateway to Progress”. They formed their own city school system in 2006. From 2009 to 2017 the student body has doubled from 1,500 students to 3,000. Saraland was the first and to date, the only municipality in Mobile County to receive the designation as an Alabama Community of Excellence.
Satsuma also supports its own school board that was founded in 2012. Originally Satsuma was known as Fig Tree Island. It became known by its present name in 1915 due to the many Mandarin Satsuma orange orchards in the area. The first municipality election was held in 1959. Satsuma believes in growing its community at a healthy rate that protects the local environment.
